There are around 120 business schools offering MBA’s in the UK alone.
Despite the rapid increase in the number of institutions providing them,
MBA’s from respected institutions are one of the best, and most proven
ways to guarantee a high figure salary and career furtherance.
Homework is essential when looking for the perfect MBA for you. Entry
requirements vary greatly between institutions- for example the Ashridge
Business School has an excellent, progressive
MBA course, but one of its requirements on entry is that a candidate has a
minimum of 5 years professional experience. This is great for those in
their chosen industry, but not great for graduates.
One of the best ways to begin your research into the prospect of studying
for an MBA is to examine the Financial Times Business School Rankings,
available on their website. The rankings examine a variety of subjects,
including global and European rankings, MBA rankings, and EMBA rankings,
amongst others. Within each ranking you can compare what other courses
they have on offer, average salaries and rankings from the previous year.
If you live in the UK,
London is an excellent place to study. It has five institutions in the
European top 25 rankings, including the number 2 in Europe (and second in
the world for its MBA programme), the London School of Economics. Even
outside of London there are many to choose from within a 1 hour drive
Once you’ve found the course for you, the next step would probably be to
take a GMAT examination. GMAT stands for the Graduate Management Admission
Test. It is an aptitude test that assesses your suitability for studies
like MBA’s. If you perform well in this exam, however, it is still no
guarantee you will be accepted- institutions will always look at other
aspects such as experience, and the quality of entry essays before they
make a decision.
If you manage to
successfully gain your MBA, the business world is your oyster. Make sure
you get that CV out there to as many people as possible. Good places to
start looking for
jobs
are recruitment sites like Reed Employment, Monster, or Totaljobs.com.
