Leading together in your life...

 

You are a part of more than one leadership team. They may not always be called teams or be explicitly involved with leadership. A leadership team is any group of people you are part of and who have a shared responsibility for something that no one can achieve alone.

It may be the team that leads your organisation, or your department or your immediate work team. It could also be an organisation that you are involved in for leisure or something voluntary that you do. Irrespective of these teams we are also all members of the teams that lead our family and home lives.
 

So, with that team in mind, here are two big questions.

  • What are the three most important things you want to achieve together?
  • How are you going to work together to achieve them?
     

My guess is that you’re having to stop and think to answer these questions. But what if I asked the other people you need to achieve these things? Do you know what they’d say? Are you sure? - If you haven’t asked them then you may well be surprised.

It seems to me that few teams have a clear, shared answer to these vital questions. And if you don’t have that then it’s not very likely that you’re going to be working effectively together on some really, really important things.

Working together on what really matters is the best way I know to achieve the important things in life and build really strong relationships...

So why not make some time to ask your fellow team members these two questions? - and really listen to what they have to say before you tell them your answers!

Surely you owe that 10 minutes to them (and to yourself)!....
